Most dental practices keep office hours, which is a problem if you also keep office hours. The appointment gets scheduled inside the working day, and the working day is the first thing to be defended when the week gets busy. So the appointment moves, and then it moves again.

We are open until 7pm on Tuesday, 8pm on Thursday, and all day Saturday. For a Darch household that is three genuine options a week that do not touch your working day at all.

Booking one is the part worth planning. Those are the slots everybody wants, so they fill several weeks ahead. A check-up booked at the six month mark almost always gets one; the same appointment booked in a hurry usually does not.

Keep your annual leave

Two late nights and a full Saturday are the reason most people move practices to us, and they are the reason those same people are still turning up six months later.

  • Tuesday until 7pm and Thursday until 8pm

  • Saturday 8am to 5pm, a full day rather than a morning

  • HICAPS at reception, so you pay the gap and go rather than claiming it back later

Questions we get from Darch

How far ahead should I book a late appointment?
Two to three weeks for a Tuesday or Thursday evening. Cancellations do come up, so ask to go on the list if nothing suitable is showing.
Will HICAPS work with my fund?
HICAPS covers most Australian health funds. Bring the card, the rebate comes off at the counter, and you pay the gap. We are a preferred provider for six funds, which usually makes that gap smaller again.
What if I need to cancel?
Ring us as early as you can. Evening and Saturday appointments are the hardest to refill at short notice, and the notice you give is what lets somebody else have the slot.
How does being a preferred provider change what I pay?
Funds negotiate set fees with the practices they partner with, and pay a higher proportion of the cost at those practices than elsewhere. We are preferred providers for HBF, Medibank, nib, HCF, Bupa and CBHS, so for those funds the gap is generally smaller than it would be at a clinic outside the network.
Can you tell me the gap before I book?
We can give you the item numbers for whatever is being considered, and your fund can then quote you the exact rebate against your own policy and remaining limit. That is more reliable than an estimate from us, because the number depends on your cover rather than on the treatment.
My fund is not on your list. Am I still welcome?
Entirely. You will claim at the standard rate rather than the preferred rate, and we can still process it through HICAPS at the desk. Very occasionally a fund does not participate in HICAPS, in which case you get an itemised receipt with the right item numbers to submit yourself.
